Viemme stores stainless steel components, copper, iron, plastic, nickel-chromium, bronze, aluminum, and other materials in plastic boxes. Previously, they used static shelving, but this resulted in dusty goods exposed to corrosion and caused unnecessary waste.
A lack of control over parts and their locations, limited space capacity, and poor working conditions was hindering operations. Workers needed to climb stairs and shelves, putting them at a risk of physical injury.
The Solution
To manage heavy parts, Viemme installed a heavy duty Kardex Shuttle 1000 with automatic full tray extraction and an integrated crane. Using a very small footprint, this solution increased storage volume by 30%, from approximately 1,000 to 1,500.
It also improved daily operations by 400%, from 20 to 100 picks. The integrated crane in combination with a full tray extraction device easily lifts loads over 20 kg. This provides ergonomic working conditions and reduces work efforts drastically.
The closed structure of the Kardex Shuttle 1000 solution protects goods from dust and dirt, eliminating Viemme’s risk of losing product value. They also now have complete control over managed stock and locations.
