Frank Mohn is a manufacturer of submersible pumping systems for the shipping and offshore industry. At their factory in Frekhaug, Norway, two TowerMat TMs and twelve Vertical Lift Module Kardex Shuttles support the storage and retrieval of various sized parts (e.g., small, bulky, and very heavy goods) used within their manufacturing process.

The Solution

One TowerMat sits outside the production building: this 18-meter high unit works well for heavy and long goods. Each load carrier holds up to five Euro pallets each weighing up to 1,000 kg. The unit has three access openings, one of which is reached from the outside of external companies that supply components.

In the production area, a second TowerMat is used to store pipes and parts up to seven meters long.

Additionally six Kardex Shuttles are used in the warehouse for picking smaller and medium-sized parts. An additional six Kardex Shuttle 1000s store individual pallets. Together these units optimize the depth of the building space.

Automation provides straightforward movement for semi-finished goods between various production areas and has created interim storage and just-in-time retrieval of components needed for assembly.
