Automation Supports 3PL Expanding Product Line
K.W. Bruun Logistik is an independent third-party logistics provider (3PL) and part of the Danish Interdan Group. Their primary business is the distribution of spare parts and accessories to authorized Scandinavian Peugeot and Citroen automobile dealerships. Their distribution center near Roskilde, Denmark sought to expand inventory to add Citroen parts into their existing Peugeot parts inventory. That same year they saw order profiles start to shift to smaller, more frequent orders.
K.W. Bruun now uses 14 Vertical Lift Module Kardex Shuttles and four Vertical Carousel Module Kardex Megamats to support their 10,000 m2 parts distribution center providing 145 Denmark based Peugeot and Citroen car dealers overnight delivery.
The Solution
The automated storage units, built 2.5 meters below ground level integrate into the new building. the Kardex Megamats store the smallest items with high-picking frequency and Kardex Shuttles store mid-sized items. Larger inventory volumes are stored on pallets.
K.W. Bruun Logistik increased efficiency while reducing floor space from 2,000 m² to 500 m².
Six employees use the automated solutions for replenishment, order picking, and shipment. Operators pick the ordered items in batches using pick carts. The process allows picking outside regular shifts for urgent dealer orders and achieves a high-picking efficiency (approx. 2,000 order lines daily).
