The facility in Uppsala is responsible for research, innovation, development, and manufacturing aesthetic and corrective treatments. Here, Vertical Carousel Module Kardex Megamats with automatic handling and conveyor is used to manage semi-finished product storage for reduced lead times, tighter control and full traceability.

The Solution

The complete automated solution for semi-finished-product storage combines four Kardex Megamats with, an automatic inserter/extractor, inventory management software and a conveyor system. The system enables a storage capacity of roughly. 392 m² previously into only 40 m² currently.

Working within the pharmaceutical industry’s strict guidelines, the solution includes a controlling and inventory system for intermediate storage using RFID technology for reading and tracking SKUs. The system handles semi-finished products automatically without a manual operator needed.

Galderma stores and picks from this intermediate storage when needed. It’s a more efficient production with bigger batches upstream and smaller batches downstream. A custom-tailored service and  maintenance contract ensures high security and machine reliability.
